Today I shot a pigeon
Today I shot a pigeon… no, not with a gun, but with my camera
I just love to watch birds: the ultimate freedom of flying (that is when you don’t get eaten by our cat…).
And I admit, this love for birds has also to do with my parents and grandparents. As during those days we did shoot pigeons to eat a delicious meal.
Now "being civilized" it took me a journey all the way to Vietnam to eat once more pigeon on the menu in the restaurants: yummy.
But my parents and grandparents always thought me:
- only shoot what you can eat and
- only shoot the "forest-pigeon": the one with the ring around the neck as in this picture below:

I must say that there are hardly any pigeons flying around here, so even if there was no law preventing me from shooting pigeons, common sense would tell me that we have ruined nature enough already. Time to stop being greedy and restore the order (if that’s still possible, as it’s November and it feels as warm as September…)
